People In Coastal Areas In Penang And Langkawi Asked To Evacuate

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) — People living in coastal areas in Penang, Perak, Kedah, Perlis and Pulau Langkawi have been advised to evacuate to higher areas following fears of a tsunami after an earthquate measuring 8.5 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of Sumatra.

So, someone tell me, what do they mean by coastal area? My sister lives near the sea but is that area call coastal? And evacuate? Who is doing the evacuation? Are the authorities ready on standby? Arggh…so many questions.

  1. coastal in this condition is
    * within few km from the sea
    * altitude near 0m (or less) from sea level

ghee .. twice within 3 months .. scary enough .. tsunami experience didn’t heal that .. ppl still trauma

good thing is, ppl think immediately to tsunami whereas few months back, most of ppl never heard about it
