CPR – Every parent ought to know

» by Lilian in: Family

CPR : I had done it for my son before. My husband had personally encountered the trauma of watching another man brought in his dead son (due to choking) to the hospital A&E.

Therefore, I am very committed to spread the awareness to every parent. Through the guidance of Dr. Cheang Hon Kit of Hospital Lam Wah Ee, Penang I had written two articles in The Star on this subject. (archieved article can be found on MyMomsBest website under News.

Dr Cheang, a neonatalogist/paediatrician, who is a certified instructor had conducted this course for parents yearly as their hospital community project. However, most of the times, CPR or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation courses are conducted by the St. John Ambulance and Persatuan Bulan Sabit Malaysia for adults. (adults and infant/children CPR are slightly different)

Two years ago, MyMomsBest had organised one course conducted by the St. John Ambulance. We requested a tailor-made course for parents, focusing on home accident prevention, basic first aids, CPR which includes Heimlich Manoeuvre (to help choking victims).

MyMomsBest is going to organise another course this June, conducted by the Persatuan Bulan Sabit. Details as follow:

No, I am not in the picture because I was too pregnant to allow my own face and big rudolph nose to be shown on the web.

Lilian, if you need RCS to give talk in penang, just give me a buzz. If we do it in your house, it’ll be free :)

Wah…clap, clap, clap, smart decision! You will be a much ‘cooler’ parent after knowing some basic stuffs like how to stop a tiny finger from bleeding. Or clean scratched knees. I think and pray that, that is all we ever need to do.

Lilian, great job, I wish there were more persons like you urging parents to get trained in CPR. I am a dad and a CPR instructor. I just started a new site: http://www.OnlineBabyCPR.com where parents can learn infant child CPR.
