Someone asked. Here’s my answer, without flooding his comment’s box.
Back then, there was no digital cameras. So, people would rely on paintings. But then, Jesus as a man, 2,000 years ago, wasn’t a celebrity as he is humble and kept a low profile. Therefore, no one painted pictures of him.
However, based on history, more or less the historians know what kind of fashion were in then. All the men wear robes, keep beard and based on where Jesus was born, the people there are angmohs with long hair and blue eyes. Hence, the actors that play the part of Jesus always have long hair, blue eyes. Since Hollywood rules, everyone sort of have that same image of Jesus.
Then again, if you watch Discovery Channel, you may know that there is a piece of cloth that was believed to be used to wrap Jesus after he died. On that piece of cloth (The Shroud of Turin), there is an image of the eyes, nose and mouth. Just like the one on the Google map.
Part of what is mentioned on Discovery Channel webpage :
“A determination of the kinetics of vanillin loss suggests that the shroud is between 1,300 and 3,000 years old,” Rogers wrote.
According to Tom D’Muhala, the president of the American Shroud of Turin Association for Research, the new chemical tests produced “conclusive evidence.”
Anyway, for us Christians, it does not matter how Jesus looks like. We believe in Him, His words (Bible) and we can feel and see how He works through us. With faith, we do not have to go all the way out to prove anything. What matters is what is in our heart and how we live our lives each day.
Well said.. well said..!
here’s short description based on the hadith.
“While I was sleeping, I saw myself (in a dream), performing Tawaf (circumambulation of the House of God in Makkah). I saw a reddish-white man with lank hair, with water dripping from his head, I asked, “Who is this?” They replied, “The Son of Maryam (Mary)…”
The Prophet (Muhammad) said: There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus. He will descend (to the earth). When you see him, recognise him: a man of medium height, reddish fair, wearing two light yellow garments, looking as if drops were falling down from his head though it will not be wet

Wikipedia isn’t exactly the best and definite source for information, so I would rather have a second opinion on that Hadith.
Anyway, back to main point.
“We believe in Him, His words (Bible) and we can feel and see how He works through us.”
This is exactly what I say when my non-muslim friends ask us how we concentrate during prayers if we don’t have an image of God.
test test
Wow, after looking at the Discovery Channel pics, now only I have some idea of how HE looked like. 🙂
Anyway, I do agree Hollywood does some times mislead us, that’s why Chinese is always the bad guy in the movies, except Jackie Chan. Hehehe…
more accurately, Jesus would have looked like a man from the Middle East – i.e. olive skin etc; a Jew.
