面子是人家给的, 架子是自己丢的 (translate for me please)

Someone please tell me what is that?

I use babel fish and some trad Chinese vs. English translation and get this:

The face is others , the rack is oneself

And I am cracking my head over it. This is important.

I will reveal where I got this after I know the meaning.

  1. It says “Face is given by others, but honour is thrown away by yourself.” I think….

I am a half-banana btw… so just being kaypo here.

  2. People will give face to you, but is you yourself who lost your own dignity / pride / honour.

I think shud be something like this. 😀

  3. The meaning of the first part is “respect or pride is something you earn from other people”.

The second part of it means “you are responsible for throwing your own pride away”

Wow, this is well translated. 🙂
