Penangites! We are the winners!

» by Lilian in: politics

The results from DAP is available here.

The below mentioned are obtained from Malaysiakini and is NOT confirmed by the EC yet.
___________________________________

Updated from Malaysiakini at 8.57 pm:

Confirmed: Opposition takes Penang - 8.52pm
Unofficially, the opposition will form the state government in Penang for second time in history. The DAP-PKR-PAS combination has collectively won at least 21 seats out of the 40 seats.

I am so happy so I have to put this post.

You can find the latest Malaysian election result from Malaysiakini. Penangites! We are the winners!

I am going out to the main counting centre to celebrate with the others. But here is what is reported by Malaysiakini :

DAP closer to taking Penang - 8.05pm
Having unofficially won 17 of the 40 state seats in Penang, DAP is currently leading in six other seats with a wide margin. The party needs to pick up another four seats to take over government in the island state.

Blogger Jeff Ooi is winning too! He came, he conquered and he is going to Parliament. Bloggers Boleh!

Blogger Jeff Ooi has big lead in Jelutong - 8.05pm
DAP’s Jeff Ooi is leading in the Jelutong parliamentary seat and the party is also leading in all three state seats in Jelutong - Datuk Keramat, Sungai Pinang and Batu Lanchang.

Penangites, this is our winning! We won!

OK, OK, actually I am quite relieved that my past few days post about DAP and PKR bear fruit. If not, I pun tak tau mana mau lari ‘cos I dissed and ranted so much.

PENANG WINS! WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE!

Note : I watch the news on TV1 and all I saw are results from Sarawak that BN is leading all the way. And though they interviewed some EC officer here and he said he got 50% of the confirmed results, there is not a word on the results reflected by Malaysiakini. If we watch the TV, we will be in the dark.

Dan - First they count at the polling station. Then, they bring back to the center where they added up all the different schools results. This is the unconfirmed ones because there are DAP/PKR/PAS people along with the EC officers. Then, after that, they will bring the ballot boxes to the state level where it is announced. So, unless the EC can bring in some postal votes to upset, then, the result is what we get now. That means, there are three levels.

  • Lilian
    8:43 pm on March 8th, 2008 14

mama23beas - Yeah, Kelantan is so strong. I was so happy for them too.

ks - They majority will decide and in Penang,if the majority is DAP, then, they will pick from DAP. But one thing is sure. Koh Tsu Koon sudah lost his minister seat as well.

Carmen: As opposed to almost NONE, pittance, of the money going to Chinese, Tamil or mission schools over the last 50 years, as a percentage going to national schools? Grin I didn’t come from a vernacular school, but there should be some fairness if that’s what the citizens want. It’s not like other schools will be ignored - there will be hue and outcry. And it’s obvious Chinese have proven to be outstanding in education, if a little too much emphasis on rote learning and not enough English. Mission schools have always been renowned.

Whatever it is, all pointers are that it’s doing to be more fair than what BN would do.

Even though I am no longer a Malaysian, I have been staying up the whole nite watching this unfolding in Malaysia from Canada. I was with the Reformasi movement in the late 1990s and an beginning to see the fruits of all the years of struggle. I hope this will lead to a huge shakeup in the BN government and put the fear of the PEOPLE in them. May Malaysia comes out stronger than ever before.

NTV7 is doing a hack propaganda job as well. The woman host actually asks some good questions, touching on Bersih rally, VK Lingam, EC transparency. But the “analyst” answering the question is obviously biased! He says he did a survey amongst 2,000 people, and only 30% think the EC is not transparent. Yeah, probably 2,000 civil servants, who are too afraid to say otherwise.

I know there are lots of Penangnites who are happy with the unexpected and surprising results. But let us not forget the fact of the postal voters, or what people call the phantom voters who from what I heard, has been prepared in case the votes swings in Penang, which according to Malaysiakini has.

And yes, there is nothing on the TV about Penang. All about BN’s wins in Sabah and Sarawak, with just a confirmed update on DAP’s win in Kuching.

Hello Pro-BN Carmen: Don’t worry, your BN will not lose the simple majority. As it is, BN is forcing Islam down everyone’s throats with the declaration that Malaysia is a Islamic state vs. a secular state as guaranteed by the Constittuion. Also, there is rampant, unnecessary Islamization of national schools, body-snatchings, overzealous raids by Jawi perverts.

Until the BN tried to out-Islam PAS to stoke up religious paranoia. There are Muslim extremists in both UMNO and PAS. So, what’s your beef, exactly, “boss”? Khairy won by about 5k seats. Chegu Bard garnered 20k seats but could not beat Khairy. Hishamuddin won by 11k. Kayveas is out. Selangor state BN take a huge beating. New faces to see in our Parliament include Sivarasa (Subang), Gobind Singh (Puchong) and the return of Wee Choo Keong (Wangsa Maju). FT BN lost badly except for Zulhasnan (Setiawangsa) and Tengku Adnan (Putrajaya). DAP won 11 state seats in Selangor as of now and 8 in Negeri Sembilan.

Congratulations to Yang Berhormat Lim Guan Eng - new CM of Penang. DAP will form state govt with PKR and hopes that PAS will help.
