RM6 billion? We are planting gold izzit?

Agriculture Ministry seeks RM6bil to boost rice production

JELI: The Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry will seek around RM6bil as additional allocation to fund an increase in rice production to overcome the dwindling exports from top rice-producing nations.

A total of RM923mil of the RM6bil is needed just for this year, Mustapa said, adding that the sum was not small but it showed the commitment of the Federal Government to assist low-income farmers.

I am speechless when I see the news. I wonder how they derive the sum of RM6 billion? Teka-teki? And the funny thing is the allocation is going to focus on two PR’s states, i.e. Kedah and Kelantan. If the benefits really fall back on the petanis who are going to toil under the hot sun in the paddy fields, then I support this move. But….

To boost production, the ministry would need to upgrade infrastructure at the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada) in Kedah and the Kemubu Agriculture Development Authority (Kada) in Kelantan.

RM 6 billion carrot to ensure the change of winds in the next four years?

I cannot visualise what is RM 6 billion. Can you?

  1. I think your criticism is unfair.

There is nothing funny about splashing the money to Kedah and Kelantan. After all, it is for rice production and Kedah specially is a major produce of rice in Malaysia. Where would you expect them to plant rice? Malacca?

  2. RM6 Billion worth of rice, if we import, donno can feed all Malaysians for how long liao. Like we never study Ilmu Alam/Geografi in Darjah Tiga lah. I also know those terusan-terusan in Kedah no need to RM6 B to make lah.

  3. wahhhhhh lau …. 6,000,000,000 korek or not arrr
If this the number of zeros goodness how many pakciks bendangs are we gonna help … the smell of the rats is so strong just with the numbers of ZILOsssssssss … πŸ™

  4. BEH – true one, you read The Star lor. RM6 Billion, can do research for self-planting, self-harvesting rice species or better still, magic pills to replace our regular nasik.

  5. hafiz – Mana ada criticism? I think you better read more politics stuffs before you simply believe everything they print.

  6. RM6 billion = RM50m to hardcore farmers, RM50m for research, balance masuk pocket cronies. Ini Malaysia mah.

Have to start channeling monies while still in power. Kalau tak buat, rugi nanti!!!

Why can’t they show us the figures and be transparent??? Next you know, they will allocate RM12b to tanam jagung.

  7. terence – RM12B tanam jagung apa? LOL *imagine pe nis implants* It is darn frustrating to see how they neglected all these agriculture industries and suddenly when the news broke out that China may have rice shortage, they suddenly baru mau react.

  8. What the malau hai. Non-economist and non-politian like me also can figure out that RM6 billion would best used to set up better universities, schools and academic grants to produce and develop high-IQ people to replace the current brainless goatfuckers who would then be intelligent enough to decide how to best use RM6 billion to make the country a paradise to live in.

I deserve a fucking Tun-ship for figuring this out.

  9. chop cop! tunggu! 6 Billy RM tu kan, how will the breakdown of money be? 50% goes to somebody we won’t know?

i remember ms YPL in form 3 geography said we should plan like the japanese. 1 small garden at the back of the house, with many many many stuff to plant. rice 1 plot, jagung another plot, raddish another plot.

don’t these people learn economics? or read international news? the newly biodiesel technology are boosting demand for commodities such as ethanol and godknowswhat. therefore with the soaring prices of agriculture product, 3rd world population are highly affected. sebab tu la harga tepung naik.

be productive la, tanam semua benda, bukan benda kita perlu saja. Lilian, jom balik kampung tanam jagung jagi kaya raya!

  10. trenganu sana sudah potong rezeki petrol ma, cari idea baru le, 6b itu keluar kocek kiri masuk kocek kanan le, heehee

  11. I’m not believing everything they print. I’m asking you why do you the “funny thing is the allocation is going to focus on two PR’s states, i.e. Kedah and Kelantan”?

Things that you need to consider before giving your opinion: current size of the industry (how many billions ringgit do you think the size is?) where are the major sources of rice production in Malaysia (that will you answer your question on Kedah and Kelantan; you could read the data from the Ninth Malaysia Plan, if you are interested in research at all) and world trend on rice production (read this: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/10/071009132035.htm)

And RM6 billion will not be spent in 1 year but instead, it will be spread over a number of years. For instance, if RM500 million is spent over 12 years, it would RM6 billion. And do you know the cost of those dams in MADA and KADA.

And don’t be condescending about other not knowing politics.

  12. … and they jumped when Selangor wanted to spend RM100 (Private firm investment sumore)millions to relocate the Oink oink centralisation plan.
Now guess we are in the BILLIONS era no more MILLIONS era!
Wonder how big their mouthS are nowadays …. SO many ZILOS > Hope they dont get choked on the ZILOS !!!!

  13. hafiz – Don’t try to impress me with all those figures. I am not. You can read why from the comments of the rest of the readers. We have come to such a stage where we are smart enough to ask – Were the Federal Gov this generous BEFORE they get massive loss in the GE? Did they invest equally in ALL states previously? We know it is not. Kelantan has always been denied of Federal funds. Now they are doing the same for all the PR states. That’s why we are disillusioned. Any kid also knows that Kedah is the rice bowl of Malaysia. You don’t have to remind us that. So, don’t go on and on over my question on these two states when the whole issue raise a bigger questions, as can be seen from the snide remarks made by the others.

  14. Simple question. What is the RM6b going to generate in return???

Research or not. 9th Malaysian plan or not. We all know most of it are going into someone’s pocket. Who can deny this??? Who!!!???. Who can vouch for it not happening???

No one leh. I guess so.

“And RM6 billion will not be spent in 1 year but instead, it will be spread over a number of years. For instance, if RM500 million is spent over 12 years, it would RM6 billion. And do you know the cost of those dams in MADA and KADA.”

Then do you know how much goes into the pockets of cronies??? Get real lah.

  15. Aiyahh 5xmom, your name and my name no Datuk in front mah, otherwise we can also get a piece of the cake mah….like one of my Bumi friend says, some Datuk somewhere just became millionaires overnight loh….

So obvious, the Federal Goverment now must think of ways to feed their “members” since they lost the 5 States mah…..so many mulut to feed, not enough post for them to stick their cronies in mah….

You have to applaud them for their ingenuity and boldness(all ballness)…….and as usual, the figures they come up with are all tipu tipu one, you never see them justify their numbers one…what they say is always GOD TRUTH mah, you don’t believe ahh…they will get the ISA loh….

  16. hafiz – Don’t try to impress me with all those figures. I am not. You can read why from the comments of the rest of the readers.

Then it is obvious, isn’t it? You’re not interested in the viability of the project but would say no even without hearing the rationale behind the project.

We have come to such a stage where we are smart enough to ask – Were the Federal Gov this generous BEFORE they get massive loss in the GE?

That’s why it is called democracy. Once they know people hate them, they will have to work extra hard to get people’s support.

Did they invest equally in ALL states previously? We know it is not. Kelantan has always been denied of Federal funds. Now they are doing the same for all the PR states.

And now, when they want to invest equally, it is wrong?

Look. I’m not defending the federal government. I’m only annoyed at your logic. It’s called jumping to conclusion.

    Terrence,

Then do you know how much goes into the pockets of cronies??? Get real lah.

No, I don’t. But how do you know?

  17. Eh Hafiz, you don’t have things to do on a Sunday ah? Look here, I am tired of arguing with you.

We have seen enough cases of abuses and hence, we do not believe whatever mega projects anymore.

If you are so free to berpidato, why not go hang around PAS, PKR and DAP’s blogs ah? Plenty for you to read.

  18. Hafiz- Can’t help you if you choose to live in denial. And its Terence with a single ‘R’. Thank you.

  19. Aiyoyo,6 billion kah….Thinking how to use that 20% only.Errr brapo,1.6 Billion kah,alamak I fail dalam Ilmu Hisap,oppss is Ilmu Hisab saya dalam sekolah πŸ˜† .

Aiya,we no point to argue now.Let’s us see next 2 years, more than enough to know the results.I think planting paddy need 4 mths and let’s us plus here and there and also what MADA and KADA expansion lah.2 yrs is more than enough,I think we can see the results the. After that you can give comment who is right and wrong BUT whether we all forget or not on this 6 billion lor.Maybe another new extra billion billion more interesting ler.

I think now no point to argue, let us all see the results and we know lah.

    πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯ πŸ™

Let’s us go to submit our INCOME TAX,aahhahah.Oppss again,no comment on the income tax,ok.

  20. hafiz is one of those typical people who miss the forest for the trees. Idiot is it?

It’s easy to toss around terms like viability and other economics diarrhea. Are you insulting us by saying we do not know any of those terms? That we bloggers and blog readers do not have businesses ourselves, do not know how to make business decisions or investments?

Do you seriously think they will put it in the hands of people who can effectively use the RM6 billion, or even RM6 million? The deviation from plans and actual implementation is LEGENDARY in Malaysia. Tahu cakap saja and berlagak sahaja. But does it actually get done, just because there’s money thrown at it? And now, you want throw RM6billion at it, and you bloody well know that’s it’s budaya BN that most of that will not go towards actual rice production.

Oh wait, after typing all that, I just realized he must be an UMNO cybertrooper. Everybody else seems to be as pissed off at this latest idiocy as I am.

  21. Ho Ho Ho! Some contractors will need deep pockets. Everything related to paddy planting would be planned, but not the planting itself: Build more buildings in the name of ‘infrastructure’, organize more lawatan sambil belajar to the paddy field, and more lawatan sambil belajar for big shots to overseas to ‘learn’ about the paddy planting, etc etc.

Side track: Quite a number of years back, I heard about fertilizer subsidy being withdrawn, because farmers are selling them off to make quick $$ !!! Don’t know how true the wind is…
