Tour De Love – Penang to Xiamen cycling mission by YB Teh

Penangites may have heard and read about the cycling YB. Let’s call him Teh instead of YB, ok? I know he looks darn uncomfortable with the YB title.

Give you some background information first. Before the 12th General Election, no one expects DAP can wrest ALL the seats in Penang. Those dedicated and hardworking folks from DAP have been around, working quietly (and sometimes very loud when necessary) behind the scenes as they were the underdogs. So, Tanjung Bungah was Gerakan stronghold. And from what I heard, when they put Teh there to contest for DAP, they never expect him to win and become the state assemblyman. I think Teh also never even dream of winning.

But he won. However, before he won the DAP seat and become a State Assemblyman, he had planned to cycle to Xiamen. Therefore, the plan will carry on.

I met Teh yesterday when I attended the opening of the DAP service centre in Air Putih. I asked if I can take a photo with the cycling YB. He is very down to earth, wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans and was busy helping to re-arrange the tables and chairs for the tea. None of those airs you find with some of those other State Assemblymen.

YAB Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang has consented to flag off YB Teh Yee Cheu and his team of cyclists namely Errol, Sam Yeoh and Tan Chai Khim.

Teh is leaving on May 7th with three other cyclists. I just notice that they are going to be flagged off from Grove Road, which is just right across my home. Grove Road is next to the Penang State Mosque.

Teh Yee Cheu, born in 1958 in Kedah, Malaysia, completed his secondary education at Chung Ling High School in Penang. He graduated from the Ocean University,Taiwan majoring in Shipping & Transportation Management. He loves mother nature and hopes to preserve ‘Green Georgetown’ for Penangites. He hopes to promote cycling in Penang for a better environment and to save the earth.

So, bloggers and especially those from Penang, let’s give some publicity through our blogs for the cycling team. They are on a mission to raise funds for charitable bodies. Please share their blog’s link on your site or in a post. Their blog, Tour De Love URL is http://tourdelove.blogspot.com/ .

I wish YB Teh and his cycling team a safe, smooth and pleasant journey. May God bless and protect all of you all the way.

(psst….he is 50 years old liao wei. I heard before he become an ADUN, he opens a chu-char rice stall and is a cook, with a degree in logistic.)

  1. By nature, YB Teh is a great person. Many of us helped him and we were very worried when he told us that he will be away for 50 days. Much to our worriness, we hope he will take great care. I know he is doing this for a great cause. Let this cause be remembered of what YB has done. I have worked alongside with him before. One of the most hardworking YB and showed willingness to always give and take. I wish you all the best.
