Government to target blogosphere next – The Malaysian Insider

You scared yet? No?

Muahahaharr…Me too.

Here’s what The Malaysian Insider published :

Government to target blogosphere next
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 Next up: a crackdown on bloggers. This possibility looms large after the government reached a sober assessment that it could all end in tears for the Barisan Nasional at the next general election if tough action is not taken to counter allegations on the Net and hold owners of blogs accountable.

This conclusion was reached during a meeting last week involving several Cabinet ministers and senior government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Government officials noted that some 400,000 new voters are registered each year. Assuming that the next polls are in five years, there would be two million new voters the next time the BN seeks a fresh mandate. A large chunk of these two million voters are likely to obtain their news and information from websites and blogs, and not from the mainstream media.

Several ministers noted that if the government followed its current policy of allowing allegations by bloggers to go unchallenged, this would create the perception that the information being posted is accurate.

“There is a growing consensus in government that those who run websites and blogs should be held accountable and this means that laws should be used to take action against those who defame and spread disinformation.

“If not, we are going to have a situation where everyone will be free to make all sorts of allegations with no downside at all. There is a fear that the trust level with BN would be very low if nothing is done, ” said a senior government official familiar with details of the meeting.

I noticed that some websites have listed my personal blog under the So-Po genre (so-po = social-political) , which I am not. I am merely a parrot with a mind of her own. However, it is an honour to get the blog listed there along with the real movers and shakers of the nation.

Having said that, my blog does make an annoying presence to those whom I am not in favour with and at the same time, my blog does help those I fancy. However humble and insignificant this blog is, I still have the magic touch to draw a lot of traffic from random surfers.

I am not bothered with news such as these because I normally play safe by quoting whatever I read on some of the news portal. Then, if I add any opinions of my own, I worded them carefully. There is nothing that gets me charging ahead than the word ‘NO’. I do not know the word ‘No’.

Anyway, someone always assures me, “We are too small for them to notice.” And if I go in, I know some will hold candlelight vigil for me, no? I want pink candles, ok? Not to mention the roasted pork thrown over the fence. But fellow bloggers, do be careful with what you post because desperation calls for desperadoes to do desperate things. Until the day when we have a new Government and Khir Toyo, Muhamadx2, Ali Rustam and etc are the ‘opposition bloggers’, we better play safe.

Now, our next mission is to see DSAI masuk Parliament so that he can whistles for all the rest to lompat over. After that, masuk Putrajaya and we bloggers will be treated differently. Booyeah!

  7. Prodigal Son come back dy on to the scene. Hmm… now what? Tabling of new budget would be the next most watched telecast for 2008.
Read in MSM, BN’s Arif looked to 8 as his lucky number, if only he waited 4 more seconds to cast his vote, might have changed his luck a bit… NOT!

  8. On the first day of my blog life earlier this year, I would expect gomen would do anything to silence us bloggers. So, I am not at all scared. If they arrest first blogger (which they’ve already done), the second blogger will hantam. Arrest 2nd, 3rd will report. Arrest 3rd, 4th will rise. Arrest 1-millionth, 1-million-and-first will blog. See if they have enough cells in Kamunting to handle that.

Gomen is in desperation to keep their job unharmed. Else, perhaps someone will “bongkar” something… No wonder the previous state gomen officers who lost in March 8 suddenly transformed themselves to state gomen office janitors overnight.

  9. And I thought bloggers were all GOBLOKS!!! YOU were also part of housewifes with computers.

Now they feel threatened and want to come after bloggers??? Even if you are caught, you can also go swear on the Holy Book you didn’t do it or know anything about it.

This is Malaysia for you. The leaders set the examples, we follow only mah.

  10. Rather than go after the infamous 6 arising out of the Lingamgate Royal Commission, they want to go after the so many anonymous bloggers. I think we should step up our efforts to get rid of these bunch of useless Be End politicians.

Just to consult u for some terms…

From the back it’s called “chee chien”
Into the front it’s called “chee-ang chien”
Into the mouth is it called “o-chien?”

  12. Send a tourist to space. Buy submarin for our shallow waters. Increase petrol price. Then give Datukship to loser. Then block roads to parliament. Then block access to websites. Then close down courts and polis station and start using swearing to solve cases.

    Only in malaysia mah

Need to remind fellow bloggers not to quote names too often….

  14. Nope… I don’t think I should hide names. If I am blogging truth, why should I hide the truth? If they ISA me because I blog the truth, that simply means they are telling the world that they don’t want the truth. PR will score 222 in 2012/3!! Hahaha!!!

Hahaha… I just helped to add a word (ISA – to jail a person without trial) into the English vocabulary, potentially be approved by Oxford! Hahaha!!!
