Do something special for Mother’s Day this year

I am terribly late in posting this but I only get the official letter from UMMC yesterday.

If you wish to help in getting a gift for mothers whose children are warded in University Malaya Medical Centre this Mother’s Day, please chip in. You can either buy the gifts yourself and drop it at three drop-off points or ask blogger, Christene to help you.

A box will costs about RM20 and we have some guidelines on what you can buy and cannot buy. For eg, all must be halal, no religious stuffs, no stuffs for kids (cos some mothers there are dealing with dying kids so you do not want to buy toys, right?) and that’s about it.

We started this several years ago because after my own son’s death in UMMC PICU ward (children ICU), another friend’s son too was warded there for almost a year before he too passed away. So, both of us have the attachment to UMMC and that sort of mooted off this project call Mothering Mothers.

We require 150 boxes of gifts and if there are extras, they will be given to the geriatic ward (old folks who sometimes have no family visiting anymore) and then, the nurses in UMMC PICU ward.

I should have gone to UMMC this Saturday but unfortunately, my hubby is working and I couldn’t join them.

So, people, will you do this for the mothers? Please have my assurance that though my breastfeeding group’s name was used in the letter, it has nothing to do with the group anymore. No promotion of the group whatsoever. UMMC used it based on their records. This is solely your contribution to the mothers in UMMC through these wonderful women from KL like Ros, Christene and a few others kind mommies. In fact, we opted not to let any press know about this because Ros and I feel that we shouldn’t make any publicity out of it.

  1. Lilian, you have a lot of great helper especially Ros and Christene in KL/PJ….

You post in blog is great to create awareness…

  2. Aiyah…don’t feel bad that you can’t be here la. I was so amazed with your idea when I first heard it…you know la, with Mother’s Day being so commercialised these days, people tend to forget the less fortunate ones.

Still am amazed, that’s why la I volunteer to kick off this project again.

  3. Redbabe – I am not sure if the 12 persons slot have been filled. I will give your email to Ros so she can contact you for arrangements?

mama22beas aka Ros – The idea crossed my mind while I was washing dishes. LOL, I haven’t been washing a lot of dishes lately, maybe I should.

  4. chanelwong – I wish to do something for Penang but year after year, it somehow frightens me to take up a major project like this. I admire Ros for taking it up for KL. (ps – I don’t know anyone in Penang hospital so harder but in UMMC, I know Prof. so easier for them to approve)

  5. Lil, so all this while…sapa yang basuh pinggan mangkuk ni. I have already put Redbabe in the list. We still have a few more slots.

  6. Lilian, hope you can initiate something like this in Penang. It’s a very good idea.

  7. mama irma – yes, you got it! Even I missed that. Anyway, I’m communicating with UMMC staff mostly verbally so 9th May is right. I must let her know the typo.

  8. Flicker is really great when sharing photos over friends and families. I love the resize feature of Flickr…*
