Pakatan Rakyat Will Ensure That Kampung Buah Pala Lives On – Lim Guan Eng

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Georgetown On 29.9.2009.

Pakatan Rakyat Will Ensure That Kampung Buah Pala Lives On When The Double-Storey Terrace Houses Are Completed To Differentiate With BN And Gerakan That Wants To Wipe Out Kampung Buah Pala.

I have refreshed my memory by looking at the minutes of all EXCO meetings chaired by me which discussed Kampung Buah Pala. The minutes reaffirms that the present state government has not given any approvals to alienate Kampung Buah Pala to the Koperasi Pegawai-Pegawai Kanan Kerajaan Pulau Pinang(Koperasi) or development approvals to the developer or issued eviction orders against the residents.

BN, Gerakan and its “character assassins” have spread lies claiming that I have signed documents to finalise the deal and transferred the land to these BN/UMNO cronies. Until today I have not signed a single document in favour of the developer or the koperasi.

During PR EXCO meetings on Kampung Buah Pala the only conclusion reached was that nothing can be done because the BN government had signed away all the rights of the residents. Therefore, there is no reason to declassify the PR EXCO minutes when no approvals to the Koperasi and developer were given by PR.

The whole deal was initiated, completed and finalised by my predecessor, Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon without consulting the residents at a ridiculously low land premium of RM 10 per square feet (when the market rate then was at least RM 50 psf) with unanimous support from all MCA, Gerakan, UMNO and MIC state EXCO members. There is a video clip of the then Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Abdul Rashid Abdullah officiating the signing ceremony between the Koperasi and developer.

Even though the land was transferred on 27 March 2009 27 March 2008, I was advised by the State Legal Advisor and also DAP National Chair and MP for Bukit Glugor Karpal Singh that the Pakatan Rakyat state government was powerless to legally stop this as this was a consequence to the approvals given by the previous BN administration. Once the decision of the BN state EXCO has been conveyed by approval letters for land alienation and development orders sent out to both Koperasi and developer the state government is legally bound. A letter on 30 August 2006 to the Koperasi gave an open commitment to revert the land title to the Koperasi whenever the land premium has been fully paid up. Even the Federal Court had affirmed that there is nothing the new PR government can do as it is bound by the decisions approved by BN.

The Federal Court order for eviction and demolition was applied by and issued to the developer and not initiated by the PR state government. Until now BN can not deny that they had issued numerous letters of eviction to the residents when they were in power. In contrast, the PR state government had never issued a single letter of eviction to the residents of Kampung Buah Pala.

In other words, there was nothing for me left to sign as the previous BN administration led by Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon had done all that was necessary in selling out the rights of the Kampung Buah Pala residents. Koh considered the residents as illegal squatters and offered them a RM 75,000 flat.

Even though I had never made any promises to the residents during the 2008 general elections, the PR Penang state government strove hard to improve on the BN’s offer of a RM75,000 flat unit on the basis that they were not illegal squatters. The Pakatan Rakyat government had fought for and succeeded in compelling the developer to offer a double-storey house worth RM 600,000 with a 99-year land title in Kampung Buah Pala.

A majority of the 24 Kampung Buah Pala residents have now seen the real difference between BN and PR; between the culprits who had sold out their rights and offered them only a RM 75,000 flat against the real defenders of the people who fought against the developer and UMNO cronies to get a RM 600,000 landed property for them.

Last week, 12 of the 24 residents stepped forward with tears of gratitude to thank the PR state government for helping them. We accept their thanks. Our real reward is that they can finally distinguish who are their friends who want them to continue staying in Kampung Buah Pala as legal landowners from the culprits who wanted to chase them out as illegal squatters. Pakatan Rakyat will ensure that Kampung Buah Pala lives on when the double-storey terrace houses are completed to differentiate with BN and Gerakan that wants to wipe out Kampung Buah Pala from the face of the earth.

  1. william – Not only the MSM, some of the bloggers to love to make provocative hints without finding out the facts and let their commentors tear apart an issue. It is sad when we become divided by our race due to Kampung Buah Pala. Once, the media asked Thomas Chan why the developer (he is the Executive Director) is willing to fork out that much of money to compensate. (instead of only RM75K flat) He said it is to prevent more racial divide because people have turned the issue into a racial matter. Of course, 90% wouldn’t believe him but still, in good faith, I think we have to. When he and Gary Ho (a director) were there, the ‘imports’ taunted them with all sort of slurs like Cina kooi, go sell yr wife instead of the Indian village etc etc. And it doesn’t end there. There were also lots of racial chants that the police are Malays and etc etc.

  2. Don’t a Catholic supposed to be the one fighting for the truth?

How come you are perpetuating a damn lie, Lilian?

    Repent, Lilian, repent !

  3. kalambong what damn lie!!!! u can see that 95% of the people in the village
were outsiders not to help the residents but to cause more trouble influenced
by senseless idiots for once something good is done but as usual typical
crab story .Indians will never come with these kind of mentality and attitude.Beggars cannot be choosers what so big deal about heritage (scrapyard) u think people are blind most of the houses were in a deplorable condition. You cannot make everybody happy – more than half are sensible who
cares about the trouble makers they can seek help from hindraf, makkal and mic -wellwishers can donate a ashram for the others

  4. When was the last time you read the Bible, Lilian?

    What does Matthew 7:14 say?

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it

    How about Mark 13:34-37?

{13:34} It is like a man who, setting out on a sojourn, left behind his house, and gave his servants authority over every work, and instructed the doorkeeper to stand watch.
{13:35} Therefore, be vigilant, for you do not know when the lord of the house may arrive: in the evening, or in the middle of the night, or at first light, or in the morning.
{13:36} Otherwise, when he will have arrived unexpectedly, he may find you sleeping.
{13:37} But what I say to you, I say to all: Be vigilant.

Do you think by perpetuating the lies as you are doing right now will get you to Heaven, Lilian?

    Repent, before it’s too late

PS. I am not saying Dr. Teng is right, but then, your behavior in name calling and siding only one side without pursuing the truth, Lilian, you may able to fool the people, but, can you fool the Lord?

  5. kalambong,

Did ever hear this joke before, one day long long ago there was a terrible flood
the whole village was flooded waist high in water. There was this catholic guy
praying to the lord ;pleaseeeeee help me lord!!!!! .
After sometime there was a small sampan passing thru, the guy asked him if he
needed help (he said the lord will help me). One hour later a motorboat came by
water was already rising to his shoulder (do u need help hop on to the boat- and the guy says the lord will help me). Finally water reaches his neck a chopper is flying above him and the guys are asking him to climb up – he says the lord will
help me.He dies and goes up to heaven and finally meets the lord and asks the lord………
I never miss church every sunday and I prayed to u faithfully and lord u didnot
help me and finally the lord said well you fool I SENT YOU A SAMPAN, A MOTORBOAT AND FINALLY A HELICOPTER .

  6. LEE GUAN ENG FOR MIC PRESIDENT!!! When are the Indians going to get their Lee Guan Eng instead of Samy Vellu, Subramaniam, etc and all the other clowns from Makkhal Sakti and IPF???

  7. Seriously, the future of Indians in this country lies with DAP. Look at Singapore they may have an Indian PM and its acceptable to Singapore.. DAP will accept an Indian to lead them if they measure up like they do in Singapore..

  8. kalambong:
You remind me of Anthony Perkins in “Crimes of Passion” (yes that guy who acted in “Psycho”).

  9. you are twisting facts lilian about racial slurs.there are more worst racial slurs towards the indians than the chinese in this issue(just look at the comments of your youtube clip ).and this “we are chinese can’t do wrong towards other race ” just to show that this island has a massive dose of sinocentrism in their blood.

btw, your defence of the developers is disgusting! but that’s just proves my point, you have no credibility as a CJ

also, you have no idea about the cops in country ,do you?

  10. DAP nor LGE is not without flaws BUT look around and the basic fact is Indians DON’T HAVE A BETTER CHOICE.. Life is a bitch and DAP don’t make Indians their bitches and eunuchs like everyone else including HIndraf, MIC, IPF…

  11. Out went one Najib, came one Kalambong pulak !!!

Repent what? So funny…. It’s people like you that likes to act Mr Preacher albeit unsolicited that really make me not want to mingle in church.

Wait a minute, you have better not be a priest….

  12. EeKay – LOL, the last time when I had the honour of interviewing the Bishop, Bishop also never preach to me to repent. But here comes Kembong the preacher…..jeng jeng jeng….

  13. Lilian, Only just a few days ago, I was telling CK that God has not gone on holidays and appointed any proxy to make judgement …including those ‘scary’ aunties in church he and his friends were complaining about. lol!

  14. JC – He ate too much toxic kambong hu liao, boh nau, boh pien. He makes a nuisance of himself in most of the socio-political blogs including LKS, Zorro and etc.

  15. kalambong: Plez help me. I have been troubled since the age of 12 when I read that heavens is full of New Guineans. I was told by some preacher man that all New Guineans go to heaven ‘cos they never heard of Christ so they are excused. And the rest non-believers go to hell. Plez don’t think I am a racist, just don’t wanna go to a place where most are wearing penis sheaths only.

  16. Too bad, Lilian

    Just too bad

If you still insist in perpetuating that lie, but of course, it’s your right to do so

Too bad, as a Catholic, you have done a very very grave sin — in knowingly spreading lies

There was no mention of KBP in the meeting at all, and yet, LGE has chose to include the KBP thingy in his “minutes”

And it was LGE who approved the transfer of land title of Kampung Buah Pala on March, 27, 2008

BN may have sold the land, but LGE was the one approving the land transfer

No matter how you want to twist the entire event, LGE is guilty of lying, and you are guilty of spreading that lie

Everything is in the hand of God now, Lilian, brace for it

  17. Chingachgook – I think not necessary lah. Just cut the pinkie finger from the rubber glove will do. Correct or not, Kembung arh? *falls off chair and continue ROTFLMAO*
