On Eagle’s Wings

John chapter 6

35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. 36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

The scary thing about the Bible is this. Sometimes, you have something that troubled you. Yet, you can’t quite explain it.

You flipped through the pages. In the Bible, there are four books, we call the Gospels. The four books are from four different persons, Matthew, John, Mark and Luke. The four are almost the same as they wrote about Jesus, what Jesus said and etc.

I like John for the mysterious ways he explained things. I like Matthew for the round the bush way he talked about things. I usually don’t rely so much on Mark and Luke because I found them too simple. I like my Bible complicated. Sometimes, I read the King James version which I hardly understand. Other times, I read my Bahasa Melayu Bible which I can understand easily.

You see, you don’t really need to understand like reading a normal novel. Yet, it has to capture you and give you that ‘aha…that’s exactly what I want to hear, or how I am feeling’.

And tonight, when I am supposed to be sleeping and I can’t, I took out the Bible. And after going through several parts, these keep coming back to me. You will have eternal life…

It is something that I don’t often like to think of. It is too hard to digest what eternal life is. But the same verses kept popping out of the Bible. Jesus is telling me to stop asking so many whys. It is part of the plan. People has to die. People will live again in eternal life with God in Heavens.

I suppose it is marvellous to have a promise. A promise that cannot be erased by death. A promise that does not require a lot from us. We need to believe in Jesus, the Son of God. That whoever believes, shall have eternal life.

The verse that every Christians remember – John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. “
