KL, 24hr internet, 100Mbs and nothing to do

Here in KL with kick-ass superfast internet broadband from the hotel. No shit, it is 100Mbs whilst the one at home is 11Mbs. So fast that things got download before I can even blink my eyes. Before I can finish sneezing, I got softwares from pssttt….P2P. Before I can say atchoo, stuffs got uploaded.

But my problem is two kids are fighting with me for the laptop.

Been to Borders and bought some books.

Been to some Ahlians’ accessories shop and bought lots of Chinese New Year ornaments. I am going to turn my apartment into some Chinese temples. šŸ™‚

PICT1173

Bought 5 pairs of earrings and will be turning into Ahlians real soon.

Nothing to do but taking photos of the KLCC Twin Towers and traffic down there from the 39th storey of my hotel.

Arrgggh….gotta go! Before my kids threw me down 39th floor!

speed

May says this:

well, effectively we’re only getting 1mbps at the most from our streamyx line although your laptop supports 11mbps! to test out the speed of your streamyx line, you can use this page calledXSpeedoMeter. check out the “size”, and the “k/bytes”. that’s how much you’re really getting… sigh. it’s still like an elephant through a straw.

I tried it out and got the above. When I return home, I will compare the speed and see?

  1. Are you refering to the local LAN connection speed? Its almost impossible for broadband to reach such speed.

  2. It says here – Speed 100Mbps. My home computer usually states 11Mbps. My neighbour connections (which I leech šŸ˜‰ ) is 54Mbps. But the packets I get here is 28,000. Home – I get about 2,000+. It is a breeze to surf here than at home. Wonder if this speed has something to do with my router back home? I paid for the 1 MB streamyx package.

  3. fARKING- Can tell me more? Who/what/where control the LAN speed?

Is it my router? Can I set it to run faster?

Can I make the speed faster by buying a new router? Right now, my router is the B series (wateva that means).

Please, please, please someone enlighten me. I went to Low Yat and none of the ahbeng can answer my questions.

My new laptop is not compatible to my Netgear router. The laptop cannot use my home line but works perfectly with my neighbours broadband.

  4. Usually if you are connected through the RJ45 Ethernet cables, you will get 100mb depending on the switch. There are few types of wifi technology. You get 11mb is because your house router is using 802.11b. Your neighbours router is running 802.11g which runs at 54mb.

LAN speed depends on the technology or equipments you have at your premises. I guess your new laptop only supports the “g” band. Most new routers supports both b & g band.

  5. This is pretty educational. No wonder i can reach 100mbs cuz i’m using the cable. but with my laptop onli 11 mbs.

So, did u claim ur presents? Is it good? hehe
