Updated from Malaysiakini at 8.57 pm:

Confirmed: Opposition takes Penang – 8.52pm
Unofficially, the opposition will form the state government in Penang for second time in history. The DAP-PKR-PAS combination has collectively won at least 21 seats out of the 40 seats.

I am so happy so I have to put this post.

You can find the latest Malaysian election result from Malaysiakini. Penangites! We are the winners!

I am going out to the main counting centre to celebrate with the others. But here is what is reported by Malaysiakini :

DAP closer to taking Penang – 8.05pm
Having unofficially won 17 of the 40 state seats in Penang, DAP is currently leading in six other seats with a wide margin. The party needs to pick up another four seats to take over government in the island state.

Blogger Jeff Ooi is winning too! He came, he conquered and he is going to Parliament. Bloggers Boleh!

Blogger Jeff Ooi has big lead in Jelutong – 8.05pm
DAP’s Jeff Ooi is leading in the Jelutong parliamentary seat and the party is also leading in all three state seats in Jelutong – Datuk Keramat, Sungai Pinang and Batu Lanchang.

Penangites, this is our winning! We won!

OK, OK, actually I am quite relieved that my past few days post about DAP and PKR bear fruit. If not, I pun tak tau mana mau lari ‘cos I dissed and ranted so much.

PENANG WINS! WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE!

Note : I watch the news on TV1 and all I saw are results from Sarawak that BN is leading all the way. And though they interviewed some EC officer here and he said he got 50% of the confirmed results, there is not a word on the results reflected by Malaysiakini. If we watch the TV, we will be in the dark.

  1. I seldom pray. But I did this afternoon. Praying that there will be a change in Penang and national politics so that there will be a future for my 5 months baby. The prayer has been granted.

It’s now time for the DAP/PKR/PAS pact to deliver.

  2. BN retains Terengannu by a razor thin margin – 17-15 seats. Dang. Maybe PAS can get someone to cross the floor.

  3. It is past 1.30am. Just read opposition took 4 states, penang, kedah, kelantan and selangor. Perak maybe on the way too.
Congrats to DAP, PKR and PAS! Please work to confirm people’s confidence in you. Cooperate with each other. Dont impose, dont assume. Take care of the minorities. Election is like marriage..courting for 5 years and you get consent on election day. No short cut as BN are finding out the hardway.
BN are like a wounded animal, they will come back with a vengeance. Your(opposition) only safeguard is to work with the masses.
    All the best!

  4. Rafidah won by small majority (less than 3k, I think).

It is now 112 BN and 50 non-Bn at Parliament. Simple majority achieved by BN to form Govt of Malaysia. Now, to see whether non-BN can get another 25 seats to prevent 2/3 majority.

  5. Opposition claims victory in Perak – 1.30am
The state is still too close to call. However, the opposition claimed that it has won a simple majority in the state. According to PKR state chief Dr Lee Boon Chye, the opposition was victorious 30 out of 59 seats (DAP – 18, PKR – 6, PAS – 6).

But the state Election Commission appears to have suffered a computer glitch, which has delayed the announcement of the results.

  10. Ayam bek! I went to witness history in the making.

Thanks for all the comments and sorry I have to delete some of your comments because we shouldn’t diss the ‘opposition’ (the BN) for their losses. Hope you all understand as I am accountable for my blog.

Victor – Wow, does this mean….LKS will be CM?

  11. Lilian: I am not sure what arrangement will be reached, but I am sure DAP will have CM ship in Perak. At this rate, DAP will be able to form government on its own. How to appease the Malay majority state however, will be another problem. Perhaps a deputy CM for PKR/PAS or perhaps a Malay DAP CM?

Too bad LKS didnt stand in a state seat. He can’t be CM 🙁

  12. This site is giving faster info that the stuff they’re dishing out on TV..

    Cheers

  13. Any idea what’s happening in Selangor and Perak? Not surprising, they are taking a long time to declare non-BN wins … Malaysiakini is reporting unconfirmed results in Selangor and Perak …. but i’m dieing to find out what the real results are / how the BR is doing !!!

  14. Right. I am happy and will now retire to bed. Hope to see the non-BN parties garnering more than 75 parliamentary seats when i wake up tomorrow 😀

    Good nite Malaysians!

  15. Lilian, yes this is historic…
new governments in Penang, Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor, Perak… and almost Trengganu..

The BR (DAP/PKR/PAS) has now this God given opportunity to make a difference for Malaysia. We hope and pray they focus and succeed in their new governance role, and remain committed and accountable to the people of Malaysia who have given them this overwhelming trust. Thank you God/Allah for your blessings on our country.

  16. Latest news:
PKR victorious in Kuantan – 2.22am
Former PKR Wanita chief Fuziah Salleh has won in Kuantan beating MCA incumbent Fu Ah Kiow.

  17. WTF. I’m watching Badawi & Najib now, and they’re playing Kenny G for their press conference. I like Kenny G, but that’s what we use to play during *my* years in school (a looong time ago). Get with the times and stop being corny, man! Some soothing New Age or classical music would have been less corny. He didn’t even seem to say anything. Just raised his arms with Najib then walked out. Pity the reporters who set up all those mics.

  18. Clifford: You didn’t get the memo? 😀 Allah has been used for a long time to refer to God as well (except in Malaysia).
